Odds and Ends

Minkee–This minkee was made for a friend through a blanket exchange. It’s warm and fuzzy, and as you can see, Toto didn’t want to give it up!

Star pillow top–This is a WIP (work in progress) or UFO (unfinished object). It’s for me, which is why it will probably never be finished! This was actually made in a paper-piecing class, which I took with Mom and was fabulously fun and helpful. I’ve decided that paper piecing is the only way I will ever see all of my points!

Rock Chalk Jayhawk KU Pillows–I made two of these pillows–one for each of my brothers–for Christmas 2008. My brother, Ben, and his wife, Ashley, went to grad school at KU and are quite the Jayhawk fans. Their enthusiasm has spread to my “little” brother, Jon, and he too is now a huge fan. I purchased the center panel of the pillow in Lawrence, KS last Spring, while visiting Ben and Ashley for their son Cooper’s baptism, shortly after KU won the NCAA Championship. I showed everyone the panel, explaining I was going to make Ben a pillow. Jon said, “What? I don’t get one!” So, when we got back to Boston, I called the shop and had them mail me another one. Mom helped with the embroidery on this project. It needed a nice, thick embroidery, which her machine does so nicely. The top border of the pillow says, “NCAA Champions,” and the bottom says, “2008.”

I gave these to my brothers on Christmas morning. They had completely forgotten about my purchasing the panels back in April and were thrilled. They really did love them. They were so fun and easy! I loved making them and bringing them such joy on Christmas morning!
